NaNoWriMo – AKA writing ate my brain

I signed up for NaNoWriMo this year with the greatest of intentions. I was going to update my novel every day, read a couple of books a week, write at least two blog posts and still work full-time. And so far – novel-wise – I’m doing pretty well! Everything else-wise…hahaha there’s just writing, ALL THE WRITING!

For the uninitiated, NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and happens every November. During this time writers across the world race to write 50 000 words in one month.

Nope, you read that right. 50 000 words. One month.

My draft isn’t pretty, and there aren’t so much plot holes as plot trenches, but I’m nearly 30 000 words in and I’m feeling pretty happy with myself right now. I’ve not really managed to read much this month, or watched that much television, but I’m happy. This month is for creativity and for releasing your inner editor for a spa break or something while you get on with the business of just putting words on the page.

I’ll worry about those plot trenches in December (or maybe after – Christmas is coming and I want to clear down my to-read pile!) and I’ve realised that I just don’t have time to blog that much (hence the near month-long gap). So expect normal service to resume once I hit the 50 000 word mark!

How about you? Have you tried NaNoWriMo this year?
