Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. This week’s theme is a top ten rewind, so I get to choose any top ten theme to revisit and I’m going for… *drumroll*

My top ten favourite book quotes!

I love, love, love when I find a fabulous book quote and I plan to use a few of these to decorate my future office. However, I’m going to hold my hands up and confess that I had to find the exact quotes on Goodreads – I’m in the process of moving house and all my books are boxed up (great sadness) – but I couldn’t pass up on putting up some of my favourite quotes.

So without further ado, on to the list!

“Last hopeless chances have got to work. Nothing makes sense otherwise. You might as well not be alive.”
― Terry Pratchett, Guards! Guards!

Guards, Guards! was the first Discworld book I ever read and it will forever hold a special place in my heart. It was also the battered book I took to get signed by Sir Terry when he was given an honorary doctorate by my university.

“What you look like is just one part of who you are – but it’s not all you are.”
― Sarra Manning, You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me

I re-read this one all the time, mostly because I heavily identified with Neve and ultimately it made me feel better.

“Once you had a good excuse, you opened the door to bad excuses.”
― Terry Pratchett, Thud!

“Most books on witchcraft will tell you that witches work naked. This is because most books on witchcraft are written by men.”
― Terry Pratchett & Neil Gaiman, Good Omens

This one always makes me laugh.

“It is useless to meet revenge with revenge; it will heal nothing.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King

I’ve read The Lord of the Rings more times than I can count, I know it so well that sometimes I just skip to all my favourite parts. Also, it’s a very quotable book and this is just one of the many quotes I love.

“There’s so much wonder in the world. Don’t let no one tell you otherwise.”
― Patrick Ness, The Knife of Never Letting Go

I used to hand-sell copies of The Knife of Never Letting Go every week – it’s one of my all-time favourite reads and the trilogy as a whole just kills me every time.

“Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week’s end of the world and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.”
― Patrick Ness, The Rest of Us Just Live Here

“You do not write your life with words…You write it with actions. What you think is not important. It is only important what you do.”
― Patrick Ness, A Monster Calls

“It doesn’t stop being magic just because you know how it works.”
― Terry Pratchett, The Wee Free Men

As a kid I was obsessed with magic – still am in many ways – but I liked this line purely for the reminder.

“There’s always a story. It’s all stories, really. The sun coming up every day is a story. Everything’s got a story in it. Change the story, change the world.”
― Terry Pratchett, A Hat Full of Sky

Okay, three guesses who my favourite authors are? I would’ve gone for a wider spread of quotes, but you know what? Terry Pratchett and Patrick Ness’s books are just so damned quotable!

Do you have a favourite book quote? Or have you done a top ten post this week? Let me know in the comments!
