Day Eleven Review: Pantomime

Pantomime

Title: Pantomime
Author: Laura Lam

Who’s it for? Teens

What’s it about? Micah Grey, a runaway, joins the greatest circus in Ellada – the perfect place to hide. Micah has secrets, secrets no one can ever know or else they’d know that really… he should be in the freak show. Or so he thinks. But the people, the life he left behind when he was Gene – a nobleman’s daughter –  won’t give up so easily, and his secret might have further repercussions than he could ever know.

What’s good about it? There is so, so much to love in this. I was doubtful about whether I’d actually like it when I started reading but I was hooked from the start! Laura Lam has a gorgeous style and I love the setting for this.

Micah/Gene is an utterly fantastic character – so complex, so original, and so likable – and I love the relationship with Aenea, it was very gently and sweetly done.

There’s a fantastic undercurrent of magic and myth running through this that I really adored as it made for a beautiful read.

What’s bad about it? Where’s the rest of it?!?! I’m hoping there’s a sequel coming soon because there’s so much left unanswered!!

The verdict? I received an early copy of this in exchange for an honest review. So I’ll be honest. I loved this. I found it a beautiful, surprising and engrossing read, with truly original characters. I’ve not flailed about it as much as I wanted to only because there’s so much that you need to discover on your own. I don’t want to spoil it too much for people!

This is definitely worth a read – I didn’t think I’d enjoy it but it proved me wrong!
